Sansa e260 lockup/USB failure
« on: October 04, 2008, 07:24:09 AM »
So I just got a new Sansa E260, and I decided to throw Rockbox on it. Everything worked fine for a few hours (except for some weird unrelated problem I was having with the Doom plugin) but then when I decided to make a playlist, my Sansa froze. I figured it was maybe just writing something, so I left it alone for about 10 minutes, but when I came back it was still frozen. So I did the 15 second reset button, and it booted up just fine, loaded Rockbox no problem, but whenever I tried to play an MP3, it would lock up again until I did a reset. I did this several times before deciding to try the default Sansa firmware. It too loaded up just fine, but whenever I'd try to play an MP3, it would say "Bad File" then freeze again. I tried this a few times, meeting with failure each time. So, I decided to try hooking it up to my PC. Windows detected it right away, however, it appears completely empty in explorer. There are 0 files. Right clicking on the drive and going to properties shows:

Quote
Type: Removable Disk
File system: FAT32
Used space: 0 bytes
Free space: 0 bytes
Total capacity: 0 bytes

Needless to say this is pretty disconcerting. Windows is apparently able to detect it but not actually read it, and the firmwares (both Rockbox and Sandisk) load but don't function properly. Now, since hooking it up to my PC, I am again able to play files in the Sandisk firmware, meaning they're still there, but Rockbox still locks up.

Does anybody know what could be wrong here? I could really use some help!

Thanks mucho in advance!

The file system on your player is corrupted.  Try running scandisk in windows.

The file system on your player is corrupted.  Try running scandisk in windows.

It won't run, as soon as I click the 'start' button the window just closes without doing anything. Chkdsk doesn't work either, it says:

Quote
Cannot open volume for direct access.
