USB issue
(1/1)

Hi guys, my name is Cody Smith.
I just did notice that the Sansa c200 mp3 players were added to the ever growing list of computable MP3's and was thrilled. I did have some trouble getting Rockbox installed because windows was treating my MP3 as an MTP device but after a quick change in the settings > System Info panel that was fixed and the installation went very smoothly.
Not all of my songs transferred into Rockbox because the bulk of them are in a root folder somewhere in the mess of partition crap they put on this little guy (for whatever reason). But that's O.K., I have all the songs on a portable HD.
After toying with RockBox for a bit and seeing the apps and realizing that this more than likely meant that I could now play videos on my MP3 that wasn't meant to play videos I decided to try putting a video on there!
Welp, that's where a problem became apparent. When I have RockBox running and plug my Sansa into my PC the MP3 shows the USB icon but it freezes and the computer refuses to recognize it. When I plug the MP3 into my PC with everything off it shows some Linux boot-up looking text and loads my old firmware. However the old firmware seems to have forgotten that it has a USB connector. USB doesn't work or detect at all however it does show the battery icon changes to the battery charging icon.
I tried the lock and hold the silver button and record and was able to open the 16MB partition but all I found was a text file named: version. But I can tell that the USB connector still works, the firmware is just not wanting to let windows access it.
So now I'm stuck with a half bricked MP3 not knowing what to do.
Thanks,
-Cody

What happens if you manually boot into the original firmware THEN plug in the USB cable?
Also, this was not a question about installation. Please be careful of where you post in our forums, there are guides in the POSTING IN THIS FORUM post in each section to help you determine where your message belongs.

Ah, sorry about the post issue.
I had to figure out how to get back to the old firmware, but hey that worked! I can hold |< and power to go to the old firmware and then I can once again go to settings > system info and set it to MSC mode THEN plug in USB and get to the root directory.
OK... that's a tid bit inconvenient but fine by me.
Thanks!
