Using the ladspa plugin framework?

(1/1)

uOpt:
Did anybody thing about using the ladspa plugin framework in Rockbox?

I need a compressor (car stereo, convertible, Boston, that kind of noise thing) and originally I thought I'd just make a second run on all my mp3s with compression.

However, I wonder whether it would be feasible to use the ladspa, which comes with 4 different compressors and of course the kitchen sink of other plugins.

CPU usage - I dunno. On my PC there is about 6 times the load from ecasound executing the compressor compared to mpg123 decoding the mp3. I wouldn't care about battery in the car, but of course the CPU power required might not be available.

Llorean:
It requires 32-bit floating point numbers. More or less, it can't be supported even if it was fast enough, if that's true. And if it multiplies the CPU load by six for MP3, it would be way too high on most players anyway.

uOpt:
Hmm, good point.
* uOpt digs the old 387 emulator out of FreeBSD.

Llorean:
I'm not sure what you're getting at there. If it'd be too slow native, don't you think emulation would make it even worse?

As well, Rockbox isn't Linux so there are plenty of other hurdles that are likely to get in the way, as well.

uOpt:
I was joking, sorry :)
