rockbox not starting ipod gray with CF [Fixed]

I modded my ipod 4th Gen Gray to use an 8GB CF when I load the RB software though the util, I get the typical "No partitions found" -80 ATA error.  I pulled the .ipod file out of the version 3 RB download and install it with ipodpatcher -a and now all I see is the first apple insignia.  Have I missed something?  Do I actually have to get the bootloader through svn and compile it instead of using the .ipod that comes in the .zip for version 3?  Any help appreciated.

rockbox.ipod from the zip is not the bootloader, so that won't work.
