Can't install bootloader on 5.5g
(1/1)
Lelouch:
I can't seems to install bootloader on 5.5g. I've disabled auto syncing on itunes, closed itunes before installing. I've also killed any proccessed related to apple/ipods. I have enabled disk mode in itunes before closing it too.
I've tried using both the rockbox utility and ipodpatcher to install the bootloader but to no avail.
error on rockbox utility was "failed to add Bootloader"
error on ipodpatcher
LambdaCalculus:
Did you run Rockbox Utility and Ipodpatcher with admin rights? This is required in order to be able to gain raw disk access and install the bootloader.
bluebrother:
Check the cable and USB port. Bootloader installation is a rather critical part, and there have been quite some reports of issues due to bad cables or bad USB ports that would work nicely for everything else. Especially front usb ports seem to be affected. Also, having a hub between player and PC might cause problems too.

Yes I did run with admin rights. Even i right right > run as admin, still the same problem occurs with the ipodpatcher.

I am running off a laptop, Asus G1S to be exact. I have 2 5.5g, the previous one had no problem installing rockbox.
There's no hub between the laptop and ipod.

I had the exact same problem with mine, it is a 5.5 80gb. I got the same error messages with both methods. I tried everything you did. Then I went to itunes and did a full restore (it downloaded new software for mine), then I used rockbox utility and installed the "small install" and it works fine now. I Hope it is that easy for you.
