I believe Rockbox on PortalPlayer targets (of which the iPod is one) still tends to use somewhat more battery power than the OF does, though lately the numbers are much closer than they used to be.  There's a battery life chart on the Wiki somewhere...  http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodRuntime

Just note that those test results are somewhat out of date...  You may be well off getting Rockbox and trying it out to see how long it lasts for you.  If you really don't like it, you can always remove it afterward.

Not on all portalplayer devices, no.

For instance the e200 gets longer battery life, as do 1st-3rd gen ipods.  The ipod video does get less, about 10% less.  I don't know about the others.

Great, but without you doing a test under exactly the same conditions in the original firmware, this statement isn't much use.

There have been increases in battery life and I'm quite happy with the length of time.  It's been a long time since I did a battery benchmark but the (still inaccurate?) battery indication seems to be taking longer times to drop down to a prior level.  So, if the indication is inaccurate, it's consistently inaccurrate, right?  ;)

Hu? Sorry if I misunderstood something but I ran the battery_bench with playing a playlist with ogg-files repeatedly under Rockbox and it stopped after 18 hours ... isn't that what the OP was asking? If not I apologize and go back in my corner ...

I think that BigBambi's point is simply that your test tells you only what sort of battery performance you get in Rockbox.  While this may indeed be useful to the original poster, it doesn't necessarily answer the question about how Rockbox compares to the original firmware.

(Of course, since the original firmware doesn't support Ogg, it is probably not possible to do a direct comparison anyway.)
