Question on iPod Classic with Rockbox
Lord Melch:
Hey I'll bump a thread if I want ;) Mods ganging up on a newbie to the forum, whatever next ;D
I did read 1st - amazingly.. , just wondered if I was missing something and the "6th Gen Classic Whatever" was supported now.
Shame..
Keep up the good work..
NiHaoMike:
I believe you can upgrade your existing iPod with a netbook hard drive. (Not a laptop drive or PCMCIA drive, but the credit card-sized ones that accept a thin film cable.)
TexasRockbox:
IPOD 6G (aka Classic) : CEATA interface -- the 1.8" ZIF drive is not common (Rockbox does NOT support this platform) (is the iPod Classic the only portable device to use CEATA?)
IPOD 5G, 5.5G (aka Video): ATA interface -- the 1.8" ZIF drives are fairly common (Rockbox supports this platform)
I've just upgraded my 5.5G video to 240GB using the Toshiba 240GB ATA-4 drive and am working on a Rockbox 3.5.1 240GB build!
If available, look around at pawn shops around college campuses. In my area there are almost always ipod 5G or 5.5G available (usually it's the 30GB model but it can be easily upgraded).
For upgrades, the 5.5G is the way to go (IMHO).
