stuck Sandisk e250
« on: September 30, 2008, 03:52:08 PM »
I have a Sansa e250 (2GB) that I recently installed Rockbox. Everything has been working great with it for the last two months or so. However, today when I turn it on, the blue wheel lights up as usual, but it doesn't go any further. No screen or anything. It stays with the blue light on and the only way to resolve this is to hold down the power button for about 20 secs. I also tried physically removing the battery, but that didn't seem to help either.

Now, I had a similar problem before (before I installed Rockbox), but it would at least go to the rfresh screen before hanging up. I contact Sansa about it and they had me go through the "recovery mode" steps. That did bring it back to life. I then proceeded to install Rockbox on it.

However, now that I have Rockbox on it, can I still do some sort of "recovery" like before. If so, is it the same procedure or different when Rockbox is installed?

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Unbrick has the details. Be careful however, and if you're unsure about some steps, don't guess, ask.

This is at least the third reported incident of sudden, unprovoked blue-ring-of-deathness on the e200s.

OK, my e250 is no longer getting recognized by my PC so I can't even seem to go through the normal recovery method at all to begin with. I got the hardware wizard, but it said there was a problem.

I also tried to boot into the "manufaturer mode", but didn't seem to have any luck there either. Am I pretty much screwed here? Or is there any other way to correct this "blue ring of death"?

***UPDATE***

Success...after some looking on the internet, I found a solution that worked like a charm. Apparently there is a black button underneath the back cover & just above the battery compartment area that needs to be pressed back in. I guess its sort of like a circuit breaker switch or something. Anyway, I pressed it in and WALAAAA, it works again. Rockbox is in tact and all.

If anyone is interested, here is where I found a solution for the "blue ring of death":

There is no such button.  There is a big black rectangle shaped cover for the memory that I assume you are talking about.  Either you memory somehow came loose and you had to push it back in or the simple reseating of the battery solved your issue.

Well, I actually tried taking the battery out and putting it back in & that didn't work so it wasn't that. There was a big black rectangle shaped cover that you are referring to, but inside that big black box was another smaller box that I basically pushed back in. Maybe it wasn't a "button" per say like I refered to and I was simply pushing something back in (like the memory chip), but all I know is that it worked and apparently has worked for numerous other people from the responses on that link.
