OK I will leave it to charge, there is no indication that it is charging and the screen is blank though.  I'll post back tomorrow morning

Update:  Well its been plugged in for 12 hours now still nothing... There was nothing wrong with my battery and i've never had a problem with it, All i did was use the rockbox utility and install the software i messed around with it and used the utility to uninstall it, it said uninstall complete but rockbox was still up so i tried to restart and a charging symbol came up and then it just went blank and disconnected from my computer.

I've never not had my ipod say charging when i plug it in or anything, so i don't know what happened.  I really hope its not broken because of this...

I have almost the exact same problem.  I own an iPod photo and I just installed Rockbox 3.0 this morning.  Everything went fine.  I had it build the database.  Still fine.  I think after the database was built it asked me to reboot.  So I held the menu button down, the interface said "Shutting Down."  And then it turned off.  Fine.  But now it will not turn back on.  I plug the iPod into my computer and it is not detected and the screen does not turn on.  I plug the iPod into the wall to charge and nothing happens; the screen does not turn on.

Does anyone know what is going on?  Is there a bug in the 4th gen. iPod photo firmware?  Is there any way for us to rescue our iPods?  If anyone has any ideas please let us know.  Thank you!

Virtually *all* the ipods that Rockbox runs on feature a bug in Apple's flash code. This can mean that they will not power on unless the hardware is reset.

Perform this by switch the hold switch to the "On" position, and then back to "Off", followed by pressing and HOLDING the Menu and Select buttons. Hold them for a good 30 seconds or so, until your ipod restarts.

First of all, my apologies.  I jumped the gun.  I broke the cardinal rule of forums:  I did not bother to research my problem at all before I posted.  Had I taken five minutes I would have discovered other posts regarding this issue where the other posters were told the same thing that you told us, GodEater.

With that being said I tried the restart method you mentioned and it worked.  Now I just need to figure out how to display album art and load different themes.  To the forums!  Thanks again.

My 5G video iPod occasionally does this.  A few days ago I saw the low battery symbol flash very briefly on the screen when it happened.  There was no reason for it to appear as the battery wasn't low, the iPod wasn't cold and I've used it for quite a while since then without charging it.  I wonder if this bug in general has to do with a false low battery detection causing a shutdown.
