Mpeg Player freezing iPod Photo 30gb

Newbie to Rockbox, I'm loving it so far.

I just converted a short snowboarding movie into a Mpeg2 and threw it on my device...I opened it with Mpeg Player, told it to play from the beginning and the screen has been black for nearly 10 minutes.

No audio. No video. What did I do? I tried plugging it into my computer as always but it doesn't even recognize. Right now I'm leaving it on (I think?) and am going to let it play, if it REALLY is playing, until the battery dies and then I'll plug it in. Not sure if that makes sense.

I guess I should have mentioned I tried that! Oops.

Yeah, already tried that. I know with the regular iPod firmware that usually works but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'll keep trying periodically.

Any other suggestions?

Success! I held Menu+Select for near 5 minutes and it flashed and worked. Nevermind. Thank you. <3


What can I do to avoid this happening again? Think I had a bad file conversion?

It works. Turn the hold switch on and off, then hold menu+select for as much as 30 seconds. Rockbox cannot freeze the iPod in a way that it won't work.

Pardon my temporary ignorance, haha. I really do know what I'm doing with this stuff...but I was afraid I've bricked this thing - I've doen it 3 times using ephPod.

Anyway, thank you both. Everything is working great now. Love this software. Got 5 friends to put it on each of their 80gb Video last night!

Try making sure to use one of the conversion tools in the PluginMpegplayer wiki page. They're all user added, but the fact that they're there means they worked for someone at least.
