Database questions

(1/1)

Shovas:
Firstly, congratulations to the Rockbox team for their 3.0 release. Rockbox is an excellent piece of software.

I have a couple questions about the database:

1. Is there any way to get a one-click entry to start playing random songs. 90% of the time I just want to start playing random songs. The quickest way I see is to (1)  go into tracks, (2) select one of the first few tracks (which never change so the first song is always non-random), (3) wait for that count to go through all the tracks (I don't really know what it's counting), (4) press Next to get a real random track.

Shouldn't there be an easy way?

2. What is the counting that the database does no matter which entry point I use to get into the songs? It's that one that pops up and shows track numbers counting down. Isn't it a little slow?

I'm using an Ipod 5.5 30GB.

1. There is no one-click solution to start playing random tracks, unfortunately.  The only way I know of is either creating a root playlist of all your songs and shuffling, then playing, that, or using the database and selecting artists, then all tracks, then any track, and making sure shuffle is on (and repeat mode set to shuffle if you want it to continue playing and reshuffling forever).

2. That's the count of how many tracks are left to be loaded into the playlist.  If you have a lot of tracks to load (say your entire library of several thousand), you'll see the countdown as it's creating the playlist.

Llorean:
Click and hold on your Music folder or your All Tracks entry, and choose "Insert Shuffled." This should be possible to do very quickly.

Also, next time you boot your player, just resume playback. It'll be the rest of your shuffled playlist. As long as you've got a lot of songs, this is very similar to just shuffling.
