ipod video 30GB destroyed?
« on: September 28, 2008, 04:04:04 AM »
Hello,
my english is no very well, i hope you can understand  :P

yesterday, i installed rockbox on my ipod video 30GB. i liked it, but the OS allways broke down, when i played music for 10 seconds.
so i tried to uninstall rockbox with the rockbox utility. But it didn't work. when i start the ipod now, i get this error while starting: "undefined instruction at 0008EA00 (0).
if i plug in the usb cable, the error is shown again, and on my computer is a partition with 0 byte, so i think i have no chance to format the ipod or something like that.

what can i do?

Tell us everything you did. Things like this don't just happen randomly, so please describe what you did. You haven't uninstalled, because that message comes from Rockbox which means it's still on there. As well, I have know idea what you mean by "broke down" so you'll need to clarify that.

yes, rockbox is still on the ipod.
when i start the ipod, the rockbox image ist shown with the version number and after about 2 seconds the error occurs.
i haven't done anything special. i installed rockbox (full instalation) with the rockbox utility. then i saw, that it works not so great i pressed the "uninstall rockbox from your audioplayer" button in the rockbox utility. then i pressed the "remove bootloader" button. here the error occured.
i don't remember what error it was  :-\

Put the Ipod into emergency disc mode and uninstall the bootloader again. If you get an error this time write it down ...

Now the only question that remains is whats your "break down" and why it didn't work for you. Is it possible you installed the wrong build? Did Rockbox Utility detect your player (the autodetect button in the configuration) or did you choose it on your own?

Btw, emergency disc mode is covered by the IpodFAQ ...
