SanDisk e280 - nothing but noise

<< < (4/4)

HockeyBum:
I am having virtually the same problem with my Sansa E250 2.0gb, v.1.02.18.  The main difference is that when I turn on the player, I get a slowly building static with intermittent popping noise.  It grows to a pretty loud level, then powers down.
Two things to note that point me to Rockbox or the chipset as the issue:
1) as others have stated, the original firmware works PERFECTLY.
2) this happens at boot up, BEFORE I even try to play a song

As one of the other posters noted, I too noticed that the player in question had the ORIGINAL FIRMWARE setting of 'high volume', but I too would think that settings in the OF would not affect Rockbox.

I have 5 players (purchased at the same time, refurbished), but this only happens on one of them.

One last thing - initially, Rockbox WAS running successfully on this player.  I am not sure what changed to cause it to not work, but it was *NOT* from a Rockbox or original firmware update, as it occurred when my son had it, and he does not have the ability to update it on his own.

This was happening with an older  (mid- 2008)  daily build, but I wiped it and installed the current release and it's still happening.

If whatever corruption of the environment was done by a particular game going "loose canon", that would account for the rarity; between most people not playing that game, and some randomness as to whether that damage fell somewhere significant.

Just guessing...

I've got a simular issue with the e250. No sound ever comes out of it. I listen closely, and sometimes trick myself into thinking I hear the cymbals from the track I'm playing, but I'm really not. This player has had rockbox before, and it worked fine then. I've done 3 installs in 2 days trying to get sound out of it, everything else works fine. Once again, the OF works perfectly. Now I'm just bugging for help everywhere I can think of. Drop me some hints if you figure this out, cuz it might be close enough to work on mine, too.

The problem might be with the unit or it just doesn't work with rockbox. I ran into some problems installing rockbox myself in the start. I figured it out and got the e240 and e280 working. Are you using the default themes are you still get the static in audio?

I am having this exact same problem with my e280 V1.02.24A. It appears that there are a small number of e280 units out there that have this problem.

It is perhaps some kind of an initialization problem. Shortly after the FW boots I get the noise and after that point, nothing but noise. The reason I suspect an init problem is that NO audio will play. Not game audio, not FM radio nor various encodings in WMA and MP3 format.

Bummer... Was so looking forward to this upgrade.
