Current Playlist read ID3-Tags?
« on: September 27, 2008, 11:35:19 AM »
Hello,
I have an iPod nano 1st gen with Rockbox and I really like it. But there is a Problem with the current playlist.
When the Tracks are copied on the iPod with iTunes or Winamp, there are saved as something like "w00165.mp3". And if you go at the current playlist, there are listed so.
Is it possible to change it, so that it reads the tag in the file? The track-name is enough.

Thanks.

I'd say don't use iTunes or Winamp and just drag 'n drop the mp3 files directly to your ipod.

But then I can't switch to the Apple Firmware.

Maybe enable the database in Rockbox and convert your iTunes DB to rockbox format. iTunes obfuscates the mp3 filenames and renames them things like "w00165.mp3". You still use the Apple firmware a lot then?

How can I make that? If I can change it back if I want to use Apple firmware it would be ok, because I don't use it so often.

You don't need to convert the itunes database to Rockbox' Tagcache -- the database can be built by Rockbox itself. Still, there's no way to make the playlist viewer display anything else but the filenames. If you don't like that you need to use sensible filenames (and seriously, who wants to use the Apple firmware at all? ;) )

That's what I was thinking! But each to their own.

Sorry for the misinformation. I have a habit of that!!

Is there any reason to continue hosting that wiki page, then?  Seems to me like it's usefulness is null if the above is true.

PC-side tools can do it faster than Rockbox can, and since it's converting based on the iPod database rather than the actual tags, I suppose it's probably useful for people with badly tagged files who've entered the information in iTunes instead.
