Possible Rockboy bug to report
« on: September 26, 2008, 09:52:53 AM »
**Edit: I realize there's a bug tracker link, but the server seems to be down. I'll try it again another time. I hope this wasn't inappropriate to post here. Many apologies if that's the case.**

Hey there. I just recently installed the Rockbox for the first time on an 30GB iPod Video.

Rockbox is amazing. I am thrilled with the new release and am only sorry I'm this late to the party.

So the Rockboy emulator is pretty fantastic, but I think I've encountered a bug in it. It's possible that this has been noted already.

When playing Pokemon Blue version, when you try to heal Pokemon at a Pokemon center the ROM freezes.

Rockboy can still goto the menu and exit, but the ROM is done.

I figured I had a bad ROM, so I tried other downloads only to encounter the same effect.

This also happened for Pokemon Red version, and even Pokemon Yellow.

I can only assume that there's some sort of process being called here (that may or may not be unique to Pokemon) that Rockboy can't handle.

I searched around the web and found a few examples on other boards of people citing this exact same issue, most of them several years old.
In all other cases people responding just insisted that it must be a bad ROM.

However I can duplicate this bug exactly, every time, across multiple ROMs and even multiple versions of the game.

This is not a big deal, but I thought someone who works on Rockboy might be interested, if the issue is not already known. If it is known, than great, and if there's even a solution all the better.

Thanks to everyone who works on the whole Rockbox ecosystem! It's open source projects like this that have inspired me to start learning to write code so hopefully I can contribute in the future beyond bug reports.

Thanks!

I'm positive this has been discussed and there's a workaround somewhere. Cannot search from my phone, but I'm sure you can find it.

Thanks for the heads-up on that. I'll poke around some more.

Thanks again!
