ipodpatcher not recognizing my 1st gen. 5 Gig iPod on Mac OS X 10.3.9

(1/2) > >>

Tulpa:
Hey there,

I'm caught on trying to run ipodpatcher.  I've carefully gone through the steps to make my pod FAT.  It's recognized by iTunes.  I then stopped iTunes.   It has the current .rockbox  directory installed.  I unmounted it in Disk Utility, but I keep being told it's not there at all.

   [INFO] Scanning disk devices...
   [ERR]  No ipods found, aborting
[ERR]  Please connect your ipod and ensure it is in disk mode
[ERR]  Also ensure that itunes is closed, and that your ipod is not mounted.
[ERR]  Please refer to the Rockbox manual if you continue to have problems.

I feel kind of like I'm trying to get my Model T to run biodiesel here, so I'm not entirely surprised it's looking at me like a dog being shown a card trick.

Any help here would be most appreciated.

Are you sure iTunes isn't just hiding but the main process still running? Have you checked the running processes? Oh, and you're aware that Rockbox Utility is the usually recommended installation process?

Tulpa:
Thanks for the assistance.  As i said, it's appreciated.

I set iTunes to not autoload and rebooted, so it's not in the way.  Rockbox Utility is acting like a 10.4+ app that won't load on my puny 10.3 system, so I went on by hand.

I just commandeered my wife's computer.  Rockbox Utility sees the ipod, but whenever I try to do anything it says it can't open it.  Ipodpatcher has exactly the same results as in my first post.

I'm starting to think I just have a senile ipod. :P

bluebrother:
Have you installed any 3rd party software on the ipod before? What OS is your wifes computer running? Does the autodetection recognize the ipod (or what exactly are you referring to with "sees the ipod")?

Tulpa:
Edited to properly reference the questions.

No other attempts to install 3erd party software other than Rockbox on this iPod.

Yes, autodetect recognizes it as a (1st/2nd gen) ipod.
