The Word "The" In The Database
« on: September 25, 2008, 06:43:43 PM »
I have an iPod video 30 GB and was wondering if there was any way to make the database ignore the word "The" when arranging the artists in alphabetical order. That way "The Hush Sound" would show up under the letter H rather than T. How would I go about doing this? Thank you so much,
Jeffrey

There is no way currently to do this. Because Rockbox is multilingual we need something slightly more advanced than simply ignoring a list of words (especially since some times you need a word ignored in one band, but not another because it's a different word in a different language) and although a method is being worked on, the patch is still in the tracker under development.

In the tracker, I believe you're looking for the "sort tags" patch though I'm not sure exactly what it's named.

I have found the patch:

http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7287?histring=sort%20tags

Now when I click the sort_tags_v1.patch file, it pops up with random text that looks like the code for the patch. I save it as sort_tags_v1.patch or whatever. Now that I have it, how do I run it or apply it to rockbox? I tried copying it into the .rockbox folder but it doesn't look like that worked. What should I do from here?

It's a patch for the source code. You'll have to apply it to the source code and then compile your own copy of Rockbox with the patch included. See SimpleGuideToCompiling. And remember, part of the reason it's not included is  because the patch isn't really considered "working right" yet.
