dual-boot problem with ipod mini 2g

(1/1)

vitrophyre:
Hi, I have an iPod mini 2g running r18310.  I used to have no problem dual booting.  I followed the instructions in the manual.

However, now when I try to boot into the macos the following happens:

I start the iPod, then immediately move the hold switch to the right.  When I see the apple, I wait until the backlight goes on and then turns back off, then I turn Hold off.   What happens then is the apple just stays and after about 30 seconds the iPod finally just boots into rockbox.

I have reinstalled the bootloader from an installer that I downloaded today, but that did not solve the problem.  Thanks for any help.

Try booting again, but this time, don't click the hold switch off until the iPod firmware comes up.

Okay.  I tried that.  It doesn't get past the apple.  About once per minute, the apple disappears, then reappears, then the backlight comes on, then goes off.  And that cycle just keeps repeating.

My best guess is something got corrupted.  Perhaps the ipod needs restored.  However, the second method mentioned in the manual works:

"load the original firmware by shutting down the device, then clicking the Hold switch on and connecting the iPod to your computer. "

Can you think of any thing else to try before a restore?  I should mention, if it can only boot into one system, I'm glad its rockbox.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Sounds this is at least related to http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8391, so commenting on that would be a good idea. Unfortunately that task doesn't mention the details itself :(
