Making a Theme / WPS - Struggling (please don't flame me)

(1/3) > >>

Niles:
Hi,

First off thanks to all the people who've made Rockbox possible. I used it to death on my iRiver H140 and have since moved to an iPod 5G and am using Rockbox with the same pleasing results.

Problem is I've got adventurous but I'm failing.

Basically, I wanted a simple Theme w/WPS that has the same look as my website.

The end idea is for the WPS to look like this.

Album art on the left, basic details on the right, nice and simple.

I thought I knew what I was doing but I cannot sort out how to get the album art on the left and have been pluggin and ejecting my ipod over the last 2 days almost continuously it seems.

I'm at the point now where I'm further away than where I started and my wps (or theme although this is unchanged) although basic gives me a fault message when I try to shut down.

This isn't happening when i load any other themes either prepackaged or downloaded.

I'm loath to keep meddling and brick my iPod so was wondering if anyone could help and point me in the right direction (other than the direction of the wiki  ;))

My theme is

wps: /.rockbox/wps/cosmicdisco.wps
browserfont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-14.fnt
wpsfont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-14.fnt
menufont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-14.fnt
font: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-14.fnt
iconset: /.rockbox/icons/tango_small.bmp
viewers iconset: /.rockbox/icons/tango_small_viewers.bmp
line selector start color: fde89e
line selector end color: b58c00
selector type: bar (gradient)
line selector text color: 000000
foreground color: 000000
background color: FFFFFF
backdrop: /.rockbox/backdrops/cosmicdisco.bmp
statusbar: on
scrollbar: on

WPS at present (nowhere near what I want)

%wd

%X|cosmic.bmp|

%ar          %ia
%ar          %it
%ar          %id
%ar          %iy
%ar          Volume:%pv

Dimensions are 320 x 240 with artwork at 100 by 100.

Thanks in advance and apologies for the collosal newbiesness of this post.

You might want to try using a simulator build so that you don't have to keep testing on the ipod itself.
Also, it looks as if you're not using viewports, the use of which should be detailed in the Wiki.

Niles:
I did look into the viewports without much success.
Like I say, the wps at the bottom is, I realise, nowhere near what I need.

audio-i:
Besides using the simulator, and of course reading the wiki to learn and really know what you're doing (also taking a look to working themes .wps files is very helpful), you could define 3 viewports as shown in the image, one for album art, one for the song info, and another for volume and battery.

That could be something like this then:

%Cl|0|0|c100|c100|
%V|14|77|100|100|0|-|-|
%C
%V|129|91|177|72|1|yourfontcolour|000000|
%ar%ia
%ar%it
%ar%id
%ar%iy
(you didn't put the genre tag in your example)
%V|14|219|292|13|1|yourfontcolour|000000|
%alVolume: %pv%arBattery: %bl%%

Honestly, some things suggest that you might not have really tried to learn what to do before posting (you didn't even put the genre tag, or the battery % tag, or the album art displaying tag... volume tag is aligned to the wrong side...) and that might discourage people from helping, but... there you go.

Edit: there are some *unnecessary* lines in the .cfg file:

browserfont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-14.fnt
wpsfont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-14.fnt
menufont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-14.fnt

Niles:
Ok guys, apologies. The last .wps file was terrible.
I've had a good read up now and the simulator certainly helps.

I appreciate the assistance, seems viewports were the way forward.

Any ideas what the error message above was?
