Installing new songs help
« on: September 23, 2008, 01:03:46 AM »
I haven't been to this website for quite some time now since I have been very satisfied with Rockbox running fine on my Sansa E260r. I am quite surprised though why all of a sudden I am having trouble loading new songs onto my player. I use WMP and I click the sync button and it goes through all that good stuff and acts as if it has done everything correctly but when I go back to my player and read through the artists/songs/albums none of what I had added was there. Anyone know how to fix this? If this has already been a problem and been solved please don't flame give me a break I haven't been on for more than a year.

When asking for support you need to be running the latest version, not a year-old version.  Make sure to state the exact revision number you are using (e.g. r18572), and not just say "today's build" or something, because multiple builds are made each day.

I don't know exactly what's wrong, but you should check that Windows Media Player actually synced the files correctly i.e. can you see and play the files in the File Browser?  Do the files have tags?  If so, try deleting the .rockbox/*.tcd files, then initializing the database again.

Please first try updating as cool_walking_ said.  There have been thousands of changes in the last year.

Sorry it has been a very long time since I have been through all this and was wondering (please don't laugh) where can I find all that information?

There should be a link to the current version of rockbox in the manual along with the installation instructions.

OK I found the version number in my player, it is: r16430-080226 and yes when I go into the folder and try to run the song they do work. So what should I do? Update rockbox?

Yes.  That is very old, and we require you to test with the newest version before reporting problems in case it has already been fixed.

Are the files properly tagged?  Can you see the tags under Show Track Info?

Yeah that's a point.  You don't have any files called "database.ignore" in the folder containing the files, or in a parent directory of that folder, do you?
