No I have no such file name in any folders and the songs are under music>artist>album>song (all are hidden folders by the way) and the .rockbox folder is in the root of my player.

Your responses here have been a bit confusing. Let's go back to the beginning:

Can you navigate to any of your 'old' music files using the file browser - [Main Menu] > Files > Music > ... ?

If so, do they play correctly when selected?

Can you navigate to your 'new' music files using the file browser?

If so, do they play correctly?

If not, can you see the 'old' and 'new' files in their correct places using your PC when the sansa is plugged in as a USB drive?

If you can, then there must be something wrong with the format of the files. Did you get them from a different source, are they DRM protected in any way?

5. they look fine on my PC but they aren't listed on my player as if I never added them.

OK looks like they don't have DRM protection. (or they are missing)

5. they look fine on my PC but they aren't listed on my player as if I never added them.

I'm going to interpret that answer to mean that the files are actually missing from your Sansa and I guess the problem then is with your syncing mechanism. Try using simple drag-and-drop to put the 'new' files on the player and then see if they appear in the file browser.

If, however, you can see the files on your Sansa from your PC, but cannot see the files on your Sansa using the Rockbox file browser then the only thing to check is the 'Show Files' setting to make sure they are not hidden. Although, I know you said they were already hidden, because you have them all in MUSIC, which is (re)hidden by the Sansa original firmware every time it boots.

Make sure you are using MSC USB mode and *not* MTP to copy the music over.  You can select this in the Sansa firmware.

@ Bascule: That is exactly the problem, and I have already tried the drag-n-drop method on my own time to no prevail. : (

@ BigBambi: How do I go into that mode? (or find out if I am already in it.)

For MSC mode, boot the original firmware and select "Rhapsody" for the USB mode.

Hold "|<<" while you boot -- as mentioned in the manual.

For MSC mode, boot the original firmware and select "Rhapsody" for the USB mode.

If it's in this mode then Windows (I'm assuming here) should give it a drive letter and it should be treated just like a UMS (universal mass storage) device.
