Bad Quality with iPod video and rockbox
(1/1)
coldfission:
I recently bought an 5th gen 80gb iPod Video.
I was previously using a 3rd gen 4gb iPod Nano.
I have been experiencing some bad audio distortions with the ipod video. The quality is very noticeable compared to the nano. Honestly, i haven't heard any other device that sounds as good as the nano, but the video is unacceptable the way it is right now.
Are there any tutorials for what each one of the settings in audio playback will do? I am lost with all of those settings.
If it helps, the audio sounds overpowered. I have tried turning down the volume from 6db to 0db and there is no difference. I have tried many mp3s and they are all 320kbps.
thanks

Overpowered? Not really sure what you mean by that, but one guess is to check is the equalizer. If enabled, and you have positive gain on any band, try putting the same amount of negative gain on the precut. Also check the ReplayGain pre-amp (if you use ReplayGain), and make sure it isn't above zero. Other than that, start with the default settings; they should sound fine.
As for what the options do, check out the manual; you can find a link to it on the left.

If going from +6dB to 0dB didn't change anything, you're probably still clipping due to excessive gain.
I'd reset the settings, enable replaygain, and then scan your albums with replaygain to make sure they're not clipping (as this will often be a problem with MP3).
