ok, I realize that this is an unimportant and maybe obvious question, and it may even be answered somewhere else.  With that in mind feel free to answer this, and reply with numerous scathing and mocking remarks on my intelligence level without worrying about my feelings:

What do the "kudos" and "commits" specifically refer to on the signature of most developers and other upperclassmen types?
