Rockbox && sansa e260 v3.01 ??

(1/1)

jomega:
I bought a Sansa because I wanted to run Rockbox but the unit shipped to me was a V.3 unit ( no way to tell online what version was selling ).    The installer refuses to install saying it is unsupported.   Is there any way to downgrade the FW so that Rockbox will install.   Surely the HW should be the same.    Any ideas or suggestions on what to do other than chuck the sansa????

Which is correct. You read http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaE200v2, did you? Quoting from that page, which holds all relevant information about your question:

--- Quote ---Rockbox does NOT run on the v2 players.
 SanDisk Sansa E200 v2 players have different hardware than the original ones, and Rockbox has NOT been adapted to run on this new hardware. It will take a considerable effort to make it do so.

Thank You for the reply!

Yes I did read about the V2 disclaimer and I know I am screwed.   Its the gamble buying on the internet.   You gamble with which version is being sold.   I did see that there is a lot of info if i am interested in hacking the device

 SanDisk Sansa e200 v2, c200 v2, m200 (v2), clip and Fuze

but it appears that you can not restore the old Sandisk FW so its a "one way no return" proposition.

Quoting the same again, now with some hilighting:

--- Quote ---Rockbox does NOT run on the v2 players.
 SanDisk Sansa E200 v2 players have different hardware than the original ones, and Rockbox has NOT been adapted to run on this new hardware. It will take a considerable effort to make it do so.

There is no "it appears". It's a fact that firmware versions 1.xx and 3.xx are for completely different hardware and therefore completely incompatible, thus making supporting the v2 for Rockbox a completely new port.
