my ipod is a 4 gig 1st generation nano. i was using rockbox perfectly and everything, but instead of turning it off by using the menu and center button, i held down the play button, and it said powering off, it turned off and all, and now it won't turn back on, i tried every reset and button combinations, i tried to plug it in to the computer, and my itunes doesn't detect it, and neither does my computer. does anyone know what i can do?

Leave it charging for a long time (up to 24 hrs), preferably via a AC adapter. This is a well known bug in the Apple bootloader.
By the way, menu and select resets and does not shutdown, so by using that with Rockbox it does not have chance to properly shut down and save status. It is akin to pressing the reset button on your PC and not shutting down cleanly.

when you use select and menu on rockbox tho, it resets and you put hold button on, that way it goes into regular ipod mode, and then you turn it off, but i turned it off wrong i guess.

No, you turned it off correctly - normally you haven't been.
If you reboot into the Apple firmware then 'turn off' it actually goes into deep sleep and continues using small amounts of battery. Rockbox turns it off completely and then there is a bug in the Apple bootloader that means occasionally it fails to turn back on without being charged. This doesn't happen from the Apple firmware as it rarely properly turns off.

As far as I am aware it isn't possible to turn off a charging ipod.
Anyway, please plug it in and leave it to charge for a good while then try the reset procedure again.

I am sure it will. Why not actually try before worrying?

1) Switch the Hold switch on then back off
2) Put the iPod down on a flat surface (like a table)
3) Keep your finger very still and hold the key combination until it wakes up.
