upgrading SD memory in a Sansa e250 w/ Rockbox

(1/4) > >>

mcf57:
I have been running Rockbox on my Sansa e250 and love it. My unit initally came with 2GB of internal memory and expandable by another max of 2GB via a SDHC memory card slot. Therefore a total max of 4GB

With Rockbox installed, I can now apparently use a max of an 8GB SDHC card in the expansion slot so can potentially have up to 10GB of memory. I think this is one of MANY great features I love about Rockbox, but will this show up when connected to a PC.

I ask cause I notice that the unit has to be in its original firmware mode in order for my PC to recognize it as a connected USB device. I'll turn it on in the Sansa mode and THEN connect it to my PC with the USB cable. Since this is the case & the original firmware only recognizes up to 2GB of memory in the exapnsion slot, will it recognize an 8GB SDHC? Or will it recognize only 2GB of the 8GB? Or will it maybe not recognize any of it at all since its too big for the orignal firmware to begin with? Just wondering before I maybe try to get an 8GB SDHC card.

LambdaCalculus:
The OF won't read SDHC cards, so be sure to buy a card reader along with your microSDHC card.

mcf57:
Well, the OF reads my 2GB SDHC that I currently had, but I was looking to possibly get an 8GB SDHC. I guess it won't read it, but as mentioned, I'll make sure I have a USB card reader of some sort that comes with it. Good idea. Thanks

Llorean:
Anything 2GB or less is regular MicroSD, not MicroSDHC.

-Rockstar:
Wouldn't it show this...

Example.
SANSA e250 (E:)
Removable Disk (F:)

The E: will be the 2GB and the F: would be your 8GB.

that's how I think it is.
