Bootloader install issue
« on: September 09, 2008, 07:21:23 PM »
Hello I'm new to rockbox and when i tried to install it it this message came up:

Error reading from disk : Data error <cyclic redundancy check>.
[ERR] Write failed
: No error
[ERR] Image movement failed.
[ERR] --install failed.

Can someone please why it won't install?

There are several possible reasons :

1) The disk in your ipod is damaged
2) The cable you're using is damaged
3) The USB port you're plugging the cable into on your PC is defective.

In the first case there's not much you can do.

In the second - try a different ipod cable.

In the third, try a different USB port. Try not to use any USB hubs either.

I've got similar bootloader installation issue. Mine says "failed to add bootloader. I tried the automatic installation and that is the message I got. I also tried the manual installation, it's kinda weird because the it said, ipod patcher is succesfully installed, press enter to exit. And when I did, my ipod turned to MS DOS mode w/c says cannot loas rockbox.ipod. I had to reset my ipod by pressing menu+select since menu+start was not working. Then nothing happens. I don't know what was I doing wrong. Please advise me. Thanks in advance.

You did not finish the installation by installing an iPod build as described in the installation instructions in the manual.
