ipod 5g: sleep timer does not work when charging

This may be a problem outside Rockbox, ie with the hardware, but I'm asking anyway.
I always listen to music when going to sleep and I have my ipod 5g connected to a charger. I also set the sleep timer but it never seems to work. It works when not connected to charger though. As far as I can see my ipod simply turns itself on at once after turning off. Is it stupid hardware or a rockbox question?

I'm pretty sure this is a hardware feature of the ipod, and therefore nothing we can do much about.
