firmware upgrade woes
« on: September 08, 2008, 04:37:51 PM »
Mods please move or delete as necessary:

I'm trying to upgrade my firmware, the Sana one, without blowing away the bootloader for rockbox.  everytime I do this, I end up with the newest build of rockbox but the initial firmware for player.

Why do I need this?  Well it appears that rockbox doesn't work with the transdock micro and I'd like to listen to my sansa in my car.

If anyone knows a way to 1) make rockbox with with a transdock or 2) how to upgrade the oem firmware without having to reinstall rockbox, that would be appreciated.

Run sansapatcher --help.  You will see options to read out the firmware as well as to update the original firmware.

I assume you're following these instructions:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200RInstallationFromWindows

Are you substituting your newer firmware file (.mi4) for the OF.mi4 in those instructions?

I'm using linux.  I tried substituting the newest firmware and then i had no rockbox bootloader. I reinstalled the bootloader and then I had the old firmware.  Not sure what I am doing wrong.  Would a log help?

When you say you reinstalled the bootloader, what did you do exactly?

I think I have it sorted out. I renamed the newest firmware OF.mi4 and placed it in the /system folder.  I used e200rsansapatcher to put the bootloader back on and everything seems to be working. Sadly, it still doesn't work with transdock so I guess I'll take it up with them as rockbox doesn't support usb yet.   That being the case, I think this thread can be closed since it's not a rockbox issue, thanks for the help.  :)

Well, I think helping someone properly install Rockbox without "downgrading" their original firmware is on topic for this forum.  But you're right that your transdock's functionality with the OF is not a Rockbox issue.

You're welcome.   :)
