Suggestion: Be able to make a custom installation of rockbox
« on: September 08, 2008, 09:18:33 AM »
Hi,

I have the current build on my 5g 30GB video ipod.

Currently, some of the feature are useless for me like the recording function and games. The only functions I really need is the file browser and the settings  (sound - general).

It's for that I suggest to be able to select the features I want when I install Rockbox.

You can do that, if you compile yourself

Thanks for the answer. I'm newbie to rockbox and have no programming skill experience. Can you help-me to do that from A to z?

Regard,

Eric

You can start by reading the Simple Guide to Compiling and work from there. :) I'm not a programmer either, so I can't help you with actually removing the functionality you don't need.

On the same topic, how do i modify the firmware so it doesn't try to load .mod files itself, but rather use the mikmod plugin to play them?

I edited out references to MOD format in firmware/id3.c and other files, removed the codecs/mod.codec file, and then rebuilt rockbox, but they still show up with the brownish 2-notes icon and rockbox still switches to the WPS when selecting them, but just hangs there at 0:00.
