Boot Error??

(1/4) > >>

comedycrazy6:
Hi everyone!
I just attempted to install Rockbox on my Ipod Nano 1g First generation.  :)
Unfortunatly, I'm not the best at computers and I got an error on my screen when my Ipod's first booted up saying:

Rockbox boot loader
Version: 2.0
Ipod version: 0x000C0006
SST55LD019k-45-C-MWE
Partition 1: 0x0B 898 MB
Loading Rockbox...
Error!
Can't load rockbox.ipod:
File not found
Hold MENU+SELECT to
reboot then SELECT+PLAY
for disk mode

I tried holding MENU+SELECT, and it rebooted it as it says, but then the error pops up again!
I also held SELECT+PLAY, but that didn't do anything.

Anyone know what to do?  ???

Thanks,

AlexP:
You need to hold select + play immediately after you have rebooted it with menu + select - this will force it into disk mode.

The problem you are seeing is because a Rockbox build has not properly been extracted to the disk - try using Rockbox Utility (linked from the manual) to do the install.

Thank you for the help.
I tried rebooting the system and then I held SELECT+PLAY. It then told me Ok to disconnect, and then froze. I tried extracting the file through the web manual, and hit "Complete install" and at the end of the download, it said "Failed to install bootloader".. so i tried the "Small Install" and the same thing happened.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

AlexP:
You first need to get it into disk mode and successfully connected to your PC.  I don't actually have an iPod, so I'm not really aware of any quirks I'm afraid - all I can say is that menu + select then menu + play should work.

After that, since you already have the bootloader installed, all you should need is the Install Rockbox option on the Installation tab.

Where's the Installation tab?
