Sansa e260r problem with sandisc boot
« on: August 30, 2008, 01:18:44 AM »
Ok so I followed all the instructions to install rockbox on the Sansa e260r.  Apparently this was a bad idea haha.  So rockbox is just fine and I can turn it on and off with no problems.  The one problem that I run into is that apparently there is something wrong with the sansa portion of the boot.  If I turn my sansa on and hold |<< it just gives me an error message saying it can't find the 0F.mi4 file.  I didn't delete anything or stray from the guide in anyway.  This is a big problem for me though.  As I've read RB has no USB functions of its own so if the sansa portion of the boot is shot then I have no way of connecting to my device to even fix this.  Can anyone give me any suggestions to help me out?

It's O as in "the letter after N but before P".

Did you name the file of.mi4 or 0f.mi4?

Oh crap.  So it was oh instead of zero?  *facepalm*  I could've sworn that the font they used to show that portion of it looked like a zero.

So I'm guessing I'm screwed?

That would be exactly why it can't find the file then. It's not smart enough to look for typos. :)

So is there anyway I can fix this?  I'm really hoping there is because if I could just fix that it would work great.

You'll need to use Recovery Mode to reinstall the original firmware, first. Then you can reinstall Rockbox properly.

But recovery mode doesn't do anything for me.  It can't be read by my computer.  Is there a way to just rename the file from within the Rockbox file system?  I just turned on the view all files setting and I can see the 0F.mi4 file that I named wrong.  If I could just rename it I believe I could use the sansa portion correctly.  Cause it's just looking for that file but it's named wrong.  So it should just be a simple case of needing to rename that song.

Ah, yes. Sorry, I'm used to OF.mi4 being missing completely. Yeah, you can use the context menu to rename it.

I know this is not the problem here but reading the thread, I got an idea and after looking at the e200R installation wiki pages it made me curious whether this could really work...

If Rockbox is running correctly but the OF.mi4 would be missing - couldn't you copy it through a microSD and with Rockbox's help to its correct place (even creating a system folder in case this is missing)?

Unfortunately I don't know enough to say for sure if this would be enough to make the original firmware work and if this would be easier than a usual restore. Maybe it could be a nice alternative though.

Okay, I know I've been in the context menu once before.  But I don't know how to get into it again.  I've tried a lot of button combinations once I get to the 0f.mi4 file, but they either take me back a menu or to the top menu or they start the file which just freaks out my sansa.  So how do I get into the context menu to change the file?

*EDIT*

Okay cool.  I found out that you can enter the context menu by holding down select over the file.  Sorry, guys.  I just had been looking but couldn't find it then I finally did.  Now my sansa connects just fine.  Thanks for all your help!
