where do i put the music?

Ok I've installed rockbox on my ipod nano (1st gen). But i dont know where i have to copy my music in, do i have to make a new map called 'music' and put the music in there?

One of the key features of Rockbox for many iPod users (and others) is you can put your music wherever you wish.

Make sure to initialize your database or it won't have any of your songs inside. I had to ask about it before I could use my songs in a non-manual manner.

Assuming he wants to use the database, and not simply browse the file tree.  If he does want to use the database, it is well documented in the manual.

By the way, you can get rid of the following folders Calendars, Contacts, iPod_control and Notes ! ;)

This depends on whether (s)he still wants  to use the original firmware and what for, e.g. music copied through iTunes is stored in the iPod_control folder, as far as I know - and you can only listen to music in the Apple OS which is copied to the Ipod through iTunes...

Yes, all media used by the Apple firmware are stored in the iPod_Control folder.  Technically, there are other programs that can synch media to iPods for use by the Apple firmware, but that's not so relevant to Rockbox.
