Beats per minute/tempo detection
« on: August 25, 2008, 03:28:38 PM »
I believe it would be useful to add an function that would detect the BPM/tempo in the currently playing song. I did a quick search of the forums and patches but I couldn't find anything related to this. I'd love to be able to code this myself but I haven't the time to learn to program. I'm just throwing it out there as an idea someone may want to pick up. I'd love to assist in any testing or usability function.

Thanks to all for all the hard work put into this amazing project!

I've never heard and can't believe that this could be possible.
Do you know such kind of programs which can detect the tempi of mp3-files?

Many programs do that, like MixMeister for instance. If Rockbox would be able to analyze the tempo in realtime while playing audio is another question...

would it be possible to implement manual bpm detection?
I have dj cd players and they have the option to measure bpm manually. you have to push a button everytime a new bar starts and the player shows you the bpm. Having an option called "bpm counter on" in some menu which turns the select button into a measurement device while playing. being in that mode will disable all other functions of the select button and the mode can be exited by pushing "power" or "menu".
