Which build for h120?
« on: August 20, 2008, 03:37:14 PM »
Can anyone recommend a good, stable Rockbox build for the iRiver h120?  I use it for both listening and recording from an external mic, so the recording screen needs to be stable.  That's the problem I've been having lately -- freezing in the recording screen during the initial prerecording.  Anyway, if anyone can recommend a good stable build I'd appreciate it.  Thanks!

If you're having problems with recording it would be nice if you could report them so they can be fixed, rather than trying to avoid them.  The sooner they're known about, the sooner they can be fixed, for you and everyone else.  Unfortunately the tracker is down right now, but when it's up again, that's the place to report bugs.

It loaded up for me just now.  Please file a bug report as we would like to address problems like this before the next release.

Also, make sure you have a recent build -- there were some changes to the recording screen, and from your post it not clear if your build is recent.

Well, I'll see if I can reproduce the lockup with the most current build (though the one I was using is only about a week old).  It's quite a pain, though, since the player freezes and the only way to get it going again (as far as I can tell) is to let the battery run down till there's not enough juice to stay on.  As I said, my hard-reset button is broken :(

IS there going to be an official release?  I thought the project had abandoned that model a long time ago....

Even the old Archos players are supported, so definitely no (and abandoning a great player like the h100 isn't likely to happen ...

Just tried the most current build on my h100 and prerecording works fine for me ...

I think he meant abandoning the release model, and just going with current builds.

Yes, that was what I meant.  I'm certainly happy that Rockbox continues to support old players, and it's absolutely warranted on the h120.  I love mine, apart from the broken reset button :/

Well, I finally got around to putting the latest build on my player a couple days ago and I wasn't able to reproduce the hang I was getting before.  Let's hope it's been fixed and I won't encounter it again.  It's a super downer to set up to record something and then discover that the recorder has irrecoverably crashed.

Since you use the device for recording I would *strongly* suggest fixing the reset button.
I keep a fried motherboard around for parts for just that purpose.
These H1x0 players will become like a Cuban Cadillac.

I fear the surface-mount circuit board.  My dad, an electrical engineer, expressed extreme caution when I mentioned that I was thinking about trying to replace that button.  I have little experience with soldering and none with circuit boards.  Surface-mount boards seem to be particularly dangerous in terms of the possibility of loosening the solder on nearby components.

My only thought at the moment is that I should find an old circuit board that no one wants and practice with it.  It sounds like a big project....
