regarding posting
« on: August 19, 2008, 04:57:34 AM »
Hi,

First off - how comes i am unable to send personal messages to people? - a moderator has sent me a message saying that my messages in the iaudio 7 port forum has been deleted. I am unsure why this is so because i was offering my assistance with the development of the port.

You probably can send personal messages now.
You couldn't before this post because you had not a single regular post on the forums.
But remember, just because you can doesn't mean you should.  I don't know the details of your situation, but normally unsolicited PMs are frowned upon.

If I had to guess why your post was deleted, it would go something like this:
Your offer to help the iAudio 7 port was removed because, as generous as the offer was, it is not the sort of discussion wanted in the "New Ports" forums.  If everyone who had an itch, but not the experience, to work on a new port asked "where do I start" in the thread there would be messages of nothing but background information repeated over and over in the forum.  While there is nothing wrong with this kind of conversation, the "New Ports" forums is not the place for it - they are kept clean of anything except actual development talk.

Basically what you were asking for was a Rockbox Mentor.  And not even a mentor for the easier task of coding for an existing target, you were asking for a mentor for the difficult task of coding for a new target.

Again, not that there is anything wrong with any this - but the "New Ports" forum is not the place to introduce newbies to general embedded systems programming.  I think hanging out in IRC, following the happenings and discussions, getting neck-deep in Rockbox is a better starting place - and then build up a relationship with someone who can help get your feet wet in what is needed to move the iAudio 7 port forward.

Then again, perhaps I totally misconstrued the reason your post got deleted and I am yacking to myself here.  ;)
