refreshing database

Did you have it in MSC mode or in MTP mode before? Maybe those behave differently

MTP shouldn't do database updated period.

Unless you have a MicroSD card in. If one is present the database will always update, no matter what, basically.

Even if a db refresh happens in MTP mode, it is relatively quick.  You may have it set to MSC, which takes a long time to refresh the db.

Chronon:
That thread is about disabling database rebuilding when booting into the Sandisk firmware (for MSC connections) using the Rockbox bootloader.  I don't think it will give much useful information for pantherman77, since Rockbox has been removed from the Sansa.
