refreshing database
« on: August 18, 2008, 03:17:12 PM »
I recently took rockbox off if my sansa e250 and now whenever I turn it on, it goes through the whole "refreshing database" thing. this takes a while and is quite an inconvenience. if anyone knows how to fix this, that would be great.

You could put Rockbox back.  As far as I know the Sansa firmware needs to do that in order to work, otherwise it wouldn't bother.  No?

Having taken Rockbox OFF your sansa - this is now not a Rockbox question...

weel, if this isn't a rockbox question I'm sorry and this will be my last post. however, before i put rockbox on my sansa, it would only refresh my database after i either added, deleted or modified a file on it. now, every time I start it up, it has to run through this.

Perhaps you changed the version of the Sansa firmware at some point during the installation?  I know that in order to disable the refresh in Rockbox I rolled back to an older version.  Update your firmware to the latest version from Sansa and if the issue persists, bring it up with them.

Did you have it in MSC mode or in MTP mode before? Maybe those behave differently

MTP shouldn't do database updated period.

Unless you have a MicroSD card in. If one is present the database will always update, no matter what, basically.

Even if a db refresh happens in MTP mode, it is relatively quick.  You may have it set to MSC, which takes a long time to refresh the db.

Pantherman, read through this topic http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=18141.0 and maybe you'll find a solution.

That thread is about disabling database rebuilding when booting into the Sandisk firmware (for MSC connections) using the Rockbox bootloader.  I don't think it will give much useful information for pantherman77, since Rockbox has been removed from the Sansa.
