Iriver H10 20GB Installation- Boot successful, none of the functions work
« on: August 18, 2008, 01:12:09 PM »
I recently installed the bootloader and the current build of rockbox onto my Iriver H10 20gb. The dual-boot is working and the Rockbox template appears but none of the buttons seem to work besides the scroll bar! I tried selecting every option on the menu but nothing moved past that screen. Not even the power key or the long-power function do anything. Please help. I have tried this entire installation process twice already! Thank you.

Also, I did connect in UMS mode and the rockbox installation program told me I had successfully installed both the bootloader and rockbox.

Perhaps none of my buttons are working because my scroll bar is messed up and it acts as if I'm always pressing down so maybe Rockbox can't read two actions at once?

That sounds pretty likely.  It's probably interpreting it as a button combination.

Have you heard of this before? Does anyone know where I should go from here?

I think I'm going to take it apart and try to clean it some and make sure the wires are all in place.

If not I will have to replace the scroll wheel, assuming that there's no easy way to rewrite the code so it reads both actions as one.

I'd try finding a website that deals with iriver h10 hardware problems as I'm sure you're not the first to experience this.

Iriver H10 Scroll Wheel Fix! No Soldering Involved!
« Reply #4 on: August 19, 2008, 04:01:30 PM »
Hello everyone, I seem to be the millionth person who had a nonfunctioning scroll whell on my H10 due to water damage, and the 1st person with the curiousity/chutzpah to actually try to fix it.

What I did is:
Take it apart. Prying it open is a pain but I suggest prying it with a flat-head screwdriver.
Unscrew those 12 screws to get behind the motherboard.
Now you see the screen and the scrollwheel.
First take out the plastic piece surrounding the scroll wheel which clicks off from the side.
Then, starting from the upper portion away from the data cable, BEING VERY CAREFUL NOT TO PULL THE DATA CABLE, peel the entire black touchpad from the metal piece behind it, which functions only as structural support.
Now you will see the thin electronic piece which reads the pressure you put on it with your finger (dont know what it's called-- I'm no tech expert).
Starting once again from the top, start to separate the black touchpad you used to know and love from the thin clear electronic strip I was talking about. Say bye to that black piece, and reattach the thin clear data strip back onto the supporting metal which you will screw back on. This is your new, exposed, but working touchpad!!
Reassemble the iriver and snap it back together and your device should be working just fine. You can try putting something over it to protect it, but I am just going to be very careful and have it bare for now. I'm going to leave mine in the case all the time.

Cheers!

This isn't the place for tutorials or instructions.  You should post this to some place on the wiki.  Maybe make your own page and link to it from the appropriate FAQ.  Otherwise this post will drift off the front page and get lost.
