Intalling Rockbox when "Invalid/Missing File" is displayed.

Hey all,

I'm doing battle with my M:Robe 100 trying to get it going again.  It displays the "Invalid/Missing File" message currently but is still recognized  by my laptop (Vista Home Basic) and m:Trip.  It will synchronize with m:Trip, but this makes not difference in getting it to operate properly.

I have been trying to install Rockbox on a clean drive for the M:Robe.  I have done both an automatic install which resulted in stating that there was no firmware.  I did a manual install with no success.  I am guessing that the Olympus firmware is missing or corrupt.  I cannot locate the original driver; only the updates.  The Unofficial M:Robe User site is offline (has been for two days) so I can't get info there.

Any ideas on what I am not doing correctly or need to complete this?

Thanks.

What stated that there was no firmware?  The Rockbox bootloader?

When you say you did a manual install with no success, what does that mean?  How did it fail?

NickVL:
I have this same problem.  I get the mrobe splash screen and than the INVALID/MISSING FILE MESSAGE.  On top of that the power button does nothing and the reset button only well... resets it and the splash screen/error starts all over again.

Update:  OK I figured it out.  I got this off of mrobe.org;

--- Quote ---1. Format the mr100 as FAT32, this should remove everything from the mr100 hard drive.
2. Using the downloaded system_index from eSnips, copy paste in the sys folder + index.mum.
3. sync with mTRip but, but make it a 'blank' sync. That is, before sync, make sure that in your mTrip library, NONE of the songs are selected/checked/ticked.

Re-install Rockbox.

spoekes:
same problem here since installing RockBox 3.2 with the RockBox Utility.
while updating, i choosed the backup option, which failed due to missing disk space.

update:
The method posted by NickVL did revive the device. But after installing RockBox 3.2 the same error reappeared.
So i am quite sure that there is something wrong with the 3.2 release.

JuergenHartl:
I had the same problem.
The problem is that the file pp5020.mi4 does not get copied. It is also not included in the rockbox-mrobe100-3.2.zip file. The manual, however does explain how it is done manually.
After I followed the instructions in the manual for manual installation, everything worked just fine.

This is plain awesome! A big thank you to all the developers!
