ipodpatcher error
« on: August 17, 2008, 07:47:19 PM »
Hello, I have a Ipod Nano 1st gen (of course) I have been havingwith Rockbox I tried many things and it still wont work. 1st I installed Rockbox Utility hooked up my ipod and did the complete install and it says it installed correctly. I double checked the info section to see what it say that I installed so far everything was on the list. So I tried to run Rockbox and the ipod just rebooted nothing else. 2nd I tried to remove Rockbox and its bootloader through Rockbox Utility and decided to install Rockbox manually I installed the "current build" off your website and your ipodpatcher I successfully put in rockbox int my Ipod but ipodpatcher says unable to detect ipod so I found out how to set it in disk mode and I  tried Ipodpatcher again and it still came up as unable to find ipods. 3rd I put my Ipod in disk mode and ran Rockbox Utility again and it installed all the stuff correctly but now I tried to turn on Rockbox and it still just rebooted. Please I need help. Please post an answer as soon as possible please. trouble

Are you running ipodpatcher/rbutil as the Administrator (if using Windows) or the root user (if using Linux/OS X) ?

Could you actually post the output from you're getting from ipodpatcher ? (i.e. copy and paste it into a post here).

The official instructions are in the manual. They recommend using RBUtil. But we really can't provide any more help if you're not willing to be more specific about what error you're encountering.

As well, please don't use internet slang like replacing "you" with "u" on these forums. The guidelines make it clear why we'd prefer people attempt proper English.

Rockbox Utility.

And if you have problems ask specifically, as otherwise it's impossible to give helpful answers. Oh, and there's a "screenshot video", even without animation and much faster load time (!) at the wiki, but as that's linked from the Rockbox Utility page you most likely already knew that ...

Look, unless you actually answer some of the questions we've posted here for more information instead of idly speculating about what's going on then this thread serves no value to you, or to anyone else, and I'm going to lock it.

This is the final request we're going to make - provide more information, or go away.

Ok this is the best ill get I heard about Rockbox through trying to find a way to watch videos from my new Ipod Nano 1st Gen I followed your manual and desided to do the Automatic Installation. After I installed all the stuff I wanted I read your manual again on how to turn on Rockbox, nothing happens so I deside to delete all the data and deside to do all the stuff manually I did everything until I installed ipodpatcher I ran the program and the program said it couldnt find my ipod. So I found out what disk mode was and found out how to put it in disk mode so I did that then ran ipodpatcher again and the program still couldnt read it. Then I checked my laptop to double check that my laptop could read my ipod it can read it fine. Im sorry I cant answer any of your questions but ill try the best I can this is all I know, this is all I did. If you can help me on why Rockbox isnt working for me and how to make it work then I will thank you for your help. Right now i wll try my best to answer all your questions

Well, ipodpatcher opens a black window. You can simply read the text it prints in this window and type it into a new message -- that's what has been asked. Of course there is an easier method (but retyping it should be obvious!): click the icon on the top left edge of the title bar, choose "Edit / Mark". Then click inside the black window on the top leftmost corner and drag the cursor to the bottom right. Press "Enter". Now the text that is written there has been copied into the clipboard and you can paste it into a new post.

If you really have problems with this you should consider if you should use Rockbox. You need a bit more than "no idea about computer" to not get annoyed by it. Besides, we expect you to teach yourself at least to some basic degree, and how to copy the output of a window on screen is something I'd put among those (making a screenshot is another quite obvious way to show us the output, but well ...)

Ipodpatcher doesn't seem to see a valid Nano on your computer.  Does your iPod get a drive letter in My Computer?  Is it possible that it's a 2nd gen Nano?
