ipod keeps locking up and resetting

I just downloaded rockbox for my 30G ipod video and it appears to have loaded fine. Some of the icons work without a problem, however, most of the time I will click on an icon and the ipod will reset OR lock up. Sometimes it will also reset randomly. It's really irritating, because this seems like a cool program but if I can't work the bugs out...well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

What icons are you talking about? Are you sure you don't restart the Ipod by Rolo-ing it (clicking the file "rockbox.ipod")? Please describe your problem more detailed.

Oh sorry. I mean on the ipod interface itself.  Here's what I can view without a problem:
Settings
Playlists
Plugins
System

Clicking on the following selections nearly always causes the ipod to reset or lock up:
Files
Database
Resume Playback
Recording

Like I said, either the ipod will reset or lock up. When it locks up I can hold down MENU+SELECT and I can reset it without a problem. Basically the problem is that I'm not able to access any of the actual files on my ipod. Let me know if you need to know more

What build have you installed? How did you install? Does the Apple firmware work fine or has it issues too? Have you tried running chkdsk /f on the player?

I installed the ipod video 30G build.  That's the ipod that I have.

I haven't had any trouble with the apple firmware no.

I'm sure how to run chkdsk/f or what that would do. Could you explain?

[edit] I saved my music to my computer and then restored my ipod to see if things would work better then. Nothing's changed and I'm still having the same problems [edit]

We do not provide support for random youtube installation videos. We have no control over these content and it might be outdated, misleading or even completely wrong. Use our official installation methods as described in the manual (it's really stunnning how the guy in this video completely ignores the official "automated installation" method -- his screenshots clearly show that they were part of the manual when he made that video! Besides, Rockbox is not "a program to play games".)

As for chkdsk, open a cmd window, figure the drive letter and type "chkdsk /f x:", with x replaced by the drive letter you figured earlier.

I should have mentioned that yes I have ALSO already tried the Automated method using the Rockbox utility. Thats what I initially tried, and when that didn't work I started looking for help.  I just tried it again and had no luck. Maybe its just not going to work. Thanks for you help so far.

And you looked for help at some random site rather than asking here in the first place?

Have you tried running chkdsk on your player? I suspect there are filesystem issues that simply "break" the binary, causing weird lockups.

I ran chkdsk, and it found no problems at all. I'm at a loss

Maybe some corruption happened to the build that you downloaded.  You could try to delete the .rockbox folder and download a fresh build.

I've installed then uninstalled everything numerous times just to catch any variables; manual installation, automatic installation, and in addition to the current build, I've also tried the daily builds both new and old formats. I was mostly hoping that this might be a common bug that others have encountered. If you come up with any other ideas, I'm all ears. Thanks guys

McCollum, I'm having the exact same problem.  iPod crashes, backlight goes out but whatever I was viewing is still on the screen.  Only way to fix is to reset it, starts back up, can play around for a second through the menu and then it crashes again.  Never had issues with Apple's firmware at all.  I've also tried several different versions of rockbox firmware as well, but no luck.  And I thought -I- was the only one.  (30G iPod Video).
