ID3 tag related stuff

How about a "Ignore all id3 tags" setting? I usually just strip the id3 tags when re-encoding the files to my player, but when a file does have one i see whatever junk is in the id tag instead of the directory and filename, which sometimes can be kind of annoying. Perhaps in the "database" section?

Another idea for the database stuff would be a "build ipod database" so that i can use the apple firmware. Currently the only reason i'd use the apple firmware is that it takes up less battery - otherwise i could scrap it completely for all i care. Mainly because: 1. itunes is for retards, and 2. it doesn't run in linux. Still, on ipods it would be nice to have "add to apple database" in the context menu of directories and files.

WPSes don't display ID3 tags unless you tell them to. It's pretty easy to just design one never to show them, and always use the filetree instead.

Because i don't want to waste space on it with 320kbps files, especially for speech or comedy stuff. I normally re-encode them to 32KHz at 80 or 96kbps (enabling me to fit a lot more mp3's - through headphones i really can't tell any decrease in quality or enjoyment of music) - but the other day someone mentioned on the "hardware" messageboard that changing the sample rate might affect battery life, because of the extra cpu cycles needed for resampling back to 44k1KHz: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=18098.0

I did a battery benchmark yesterday with some of my 32KHz files, and just started one right now, with the same files in 44.1KHz 128kbps -- i'll let you know the results.


As for the id3 tags, all i'd need to do is change the %a %b %c thingies in the "wps" of whatever theme i'm using right?
