Ipod 5.5G stuck booting in diagnostic mode

...When I boot it for the first time after a night off.  I have to hard reset it and then thereafter it starts fine.  Until I leave it sleeping for more than 10-12 hours.  It is charged, and connected to a line out dock to an amp.  Any ideas?.  It is very annoying.
