Ticking sounds in recording

(1/1)

spurty:
I've been experimenting with recording in WavPack format. I copied the recordings to my computer and played them with Winamp with the plugin linked to on the WavPack site. There is a soft but noticeable ticking sound. It's not steady and happens mostly during louder sections so at first I thought it was an issue with the limiter. So I turned it off and turned the gain down. Still ticking. Then I thought to listen to these files directly off my iriver 140. No ticking.

So do I just have an incompatible version of the decoder? I also tried Xrecode to convert to WAV and the ticking is still there. But if I record as WAV there's no ticking. So I'm guessing there an issue with the WavPack playback decoding.

Also are there other recommendations for other free audio converter software?

Thanks.

Llorean:
Have you tried to use the command line tool here: http://www.wavpack.com/downloads.html to decode to wav and seen of the wav has the ticking?

spurty:
Good suggestion. I'm using version WavPack 4.50 and it does still produce the clicking. I feel like I'm the only one experiencing this.

Llorean:
This is interesting. Could you try compiling a completely up to date version of wavpack? I know I'm asking you to jump through hoops, but for quite some time our wavpack codec was worked on by the inventor of the codec itself, so it's entirely possible that our version is (technically speaking) more correct or up-to-date than various precompiled versions out there and it'd be nice to know for sure.

Sounds like winamp's decoder is buggy, which wouldn't be that surprising.
