IHP 120 stop button non functional
pdiddy:
Hi everyone new to this post. i have enjoyed a few years of my 120 and the stop button just stopped working the other day. when i press it nothing happens. all other buttons work. the only work around for me to shut unit off is to activate the hold button and hit the reset button. if open up the unit can this switch be rplaced or aodered back on the circuit board? or is there another fix?
TIA

Hello,
I had this problem with two of my mp3-players, too. Both times it was a hardware problem. The buttons were just broken.
Mostly the companies build cheap components in such devices to reduce the price.
You can disassemble your IRiver and measure if the button is working or not. (if you have a multimeter)
If the buttobn is broken you can buy a suitable button and solder it.

thanx for reply. i took it apart and as far as the me chanical aspect everything looks in tact. what can i do to fix. can i fashion a makeshift button just to short the pins to act as the stop button because i doubt i will be able to find this button as a part anywhere.
AlexP:
You could also test it by booting the iriver firmware and seeing if it works there.

There is/was a Wiki topic for people with hardware for sale/breaking for spares, or there are various threads in this topic where folk have dead players you might be able to obtain for breaking.
You will have to find someone with the tools/skills to change a surface mounted switch though.
