Rockbox General > Rockbox General Discussion
To rockbox devs - THANKS!!!

Hello everyone, new user here from Montréal, Canada ;D
I just wanted to tell you guys that your work is VERY appreciated. I have an ipod nano (1st gen) and it's really awesome to have such a fantastic, useable, and effective firmware for it - especially one that doesn't need i-tunes or some "sync" program. (hard to find one that works in linux)
...so, thanks!!!

I'll keep an eye out for you on the metro. I'm always peeking over people's shoulders to see if they're using Rockbox - and shake my head slowly when I see them using the Apple software.
Salut,
Marc

haha, good one =D but what if someone uses rockbox with an "apple ipod" theme? ???
Incidentally, what impact does EQ have on battery life? (assuming no huge bass boost) I ask because i noticed it's disabled by default, and the "flyspray #" search thingy wasn't very useful in this particular search.
soap:
The EQ will impact battery life. How much? I can't say. I do not believe it has been quantitatively tested.
It doesn't matter if you have a "huge" bass boost or a tiny one. Every band of the EQ you use will consume CPU cycles (and thus battery) if the gain is not 0.
Also note that some codecs use less CPU to decode than others, so using the EQ while playing FLAC might have less of a detrimental effect on battery life than using the EQ while playing mp3.

wait a sec... so your saying when i adjust my bass and treble settings up from the default of ZERO to level 8 (on each of bass/treble) it burns more and more CPU cycles each level i raise it? (like going from 1 to 2 then 3 to 4 ... like each notch i raise it burns more and more power?)
and even assuming what i asked is right... would it be to any noticeable degree? .... like say from going at a default state of 15hours but with bass/treble up higher down to 14.xx or would it shave off a couple hours or more of batt life?
