Best Tiny Recorder?
« on: August 07, 2008, 06:18:19 PM »
I'm thinking about picking up a Sansa e280 to use with Rockbox mainly as a voice recorder.

Is there a recorder I should consider that is smaller or has better recording quality?  I want it to really be pocketable, so the smaller the better.

The e200 has an awful buzzing noise in the recordings that it picks up from the LCD.  Perhaps the c200 doesn't have the same problem and would be a better choice...?

Would it be possible to turn off the screen while recording to eliminate the noise?

A recent commit turns the c200 screen off when the backlight turns off. Although it's mostly a power-saving measure, it could help in using the c200 as a small voice recorder (which I do with it anyway) by eliminating that "buzz".

Yes, Rockbox let's you control the screen completely.  You could even turn it off completely and navigate the menus using voice if you wish.

I meant you could set the backlight to "off" and navigate your way to the recording screen.  If blind users can do it, I'm sure the sighted can figure it out.  No matter, if you're just doing simple voice recordings the buzzing isn't a big deal, and chances are you're not recording anything important using the cruddy Sansa mic anyway.
