Installed on e280 (refurb) but when connecting, it freezes.
« on: August 07, 2008, 10:09:07 AM »
I installed Rockbox from my Macbook because I'm running 64bit Linux OS, and the page for what I need seems to be down right now. No biggie though I guess, because I installed per the Mac OS X instructions to the T, and all went very well. Roxkbox Loaded up fine, and I can browse everything etc..

The problem occurs when I connect it back to either my Linux box or to the Mac. For a couple of seconds, the graphic on the screen goes all glitchy, then goes to the regular graphic that you'd normally see when connected to a computer. Except nothing happens at this point. The device doesn't show up anywhere, and when I unplug the USB cable, nothing happens then either, and I have to hold the power button down until it shuts off.

I'm positive that I installed the Bootloader correctly, and I even went back to an older build to make sure that it wasn't something caused by a daily etc.. Has this come up before, and what should I do ? This e280 was bought from Buy.com as a refurb and was cheap enough, but if I can't get RB on it, it's worthless to me since I'd rather have (another) a Fuze in its stead. This was to be for my wife, anyway.

So Rockbox boots and functions okay?  The problem is only when you plug it in to USB?

Ah, ok. Thanks Marc. I'd never have realized that. How noobish of me to not RTFM ! So one more question and I'm out of here. Since RB doesn't see the folders and files native to the Sansa disk, I'm assuming I have to create a music folder somewhere. I'll try this while waiting for a response, and hope for the best.

EDIT:  Well, I thought that everything was cool, because at first I was able to see the "music" folder with some music I put in it, but now it's not seeing that folder at all. I'm still able to create a playlist though, which is weird I think. What am I not doing ?

Doug

Edit: Update.  Some strange behavior I can't explain. When i put individual folders with music in the root folder, RB will see those and I can browse them normally. This would obviously be a mess though. Also, I created a "music' folder which for some reason can only be seen by RB if there are no other sub folders in it. Once I put any music folders in it though, upon next re-boot, that Music folder just disappears ?

I have a work around solution though, but I hope it will be just temporary. I put my music folders within the "photo" folder, which works fine.  Interestingly, RB doesn't see all the other standard folders which are there by default with the sansa FW. I thought it would.

There's a simple solution. Do not use the folder called "Music" as the stock firmware makes it hidden once you put songs into it. Rockbox does not display hidden folders. Use "Music2" or whatever, just not "Music".
