"Recently Added" Never Displays Audio Files
« on: August 06, 2008, 05:28:51 PM »
Database->Recently Added only shows "All tracks" and "Random," neither of which show any files. Recently added is empty. To try to narrow down the problem, these are the steps I've taken.

  • Reinstalled original updated apple software, formatting the ipod of previous files
  • Installed a current build of Rockbox (r18201-080806)
  • Enabled gather runtime data
  • Placed 1 mp3 podcast on the device in the root directory
  • Initialized the database
  • Powered the 4g ipod down, then back on
  • Checked to make sure the file showed up in the rest of database, including artist and album
  • Placed a 2nd mp3 podcast in the same directory
  • Updated the Database
  • Powered down, powered on

Both of the mp3s show up in the database elsewhere, but neither in recently added.

I've been troubleshooting this for several days in irc with no luck, so I figured I would post all of the details here. To check, I also stripped the album art from the podcasts and tried the process. No results. I've also tried with multiple file formats and files, including mp3, m4a, flac, and wma.

4g greyscale 20gb ipod
Rockbox (r18201-080806)
Podcasts tested from other irc users, and found to have valid meta data

Ubuntu 8.10 file transfers using nautilis

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Seriously, this is driving me a little insane. :S

Try exporting the runtime data (Database Settings > Export Modifications) and posting the resulting text file here. It should contain enough info to at least understand the problem.

Are you using the default database (no tagnavi_custom.config)?

From a fresh install r18212-080807 and repeating the steps above, the contents of database_changelog.txt are
Quote
## Changelog version 1
and that is all.

I have not played any of the files at this time, because after I do, they show up.

I have not changed any configuration files. This is a fresh install.

After this, I added another mp3 album and played the song. The changelog now reads
Quote
## Changelog version 1
artist="Cake" album="Fashion Nugget" genre="Other" title="Frank Sinatra" filename="/Cake/Fashion Nugget/01 - Cake - Frank Sinatra.mp3" composer="John McCrea" comment="<Untagged>" albumartist="Cake" grouping="" year="1996" discnumber="0" tracknumber="1" bitrate="112" length="243706" playcount="1" rating="0" playtime="243706" lastplayed="0" commitid="0" mtime="924476731"

If I'm not looking in the right place, please let me know. I would really like to solve this now, mostly out of pride. :)

Thanks for that. What I was hoping for, however, was the file as it was when you originally posted, with a number of entries. What I'm looking for is an entry in that file labelled 'entryage', which is the database field used to record the relative 'newness' of a file.

Can you possibly add more track(s), do a database update (not initialise), add more track(s), update again etc. until you've got about 10 entries. They should have an 'entryage' field, with the number increasing the longer ago they were put onto the player, the most recent with an entryage of '0'.

I'll try and look into it on my Sansa as well.

I added 8 new directories individually with audio files, updated and rebooted, then exported with no change to the changelog.

To generate some more data, I set playback to random and let it play through some of the files.

Let me know if I did this wrong. I didn't find any "entryage" tags. Thanks again for your patience!

Well, I'm confused, here. Actually, I'm wrong about the entryage attribute, that's only used in the tagnavi file and I don't think it's exported to this changelog, because it is not strictly runtime data.

However, there is a genuine problem. I've been testing on the Sansa simulator and, like you've got in your file, the 'commitid' is always zero, even after multiple file adds with a confirmed database commit splash shown between each one.

This means that the 'Recently Added' database selection will always be empty, as it looks for 'commitid' to be greater than zero. So this is the cause, but why 'commitid' is apparently not being updated, I don't know. The mtime attribute is new to me too, maybe when that change was made, something else broke?

You would be best to raise a Flyspray bug (Under 'Tracker' on the sidebar), referencing this forum thread and I'll have a poke around and test on one of the non-RTC simulators and I'll add any additional findings to the Flyspray entry.

Has anyone been able to duplicate this on their own system? I have another identical ipod (4G 20Gb Ipod HP) that I'm shipping in and plan on doing the entire process on a different machine, but until then would like to know if anyone else has tracked this down. Any word?

I currently have r19569 on my F40.  Recently Added does appear to contain a list of recently added tracks.

Load to RAM: Yes
Auto Update: No
Gather Runtime Data: Yes
